Country Crossroads Map now available
WATSONVILLE — The 42nd annual edition of the Country Crossroads Map is now available.
The map is also available as an online, interactive version at countrycrossroadsmap.com.
This free publication lists farms on the Central Coast and Santa Clara Valley that sell directly to the public. The guide shows where to pick berries, select smoked sausages and find Christmas trees among many other farm commodities listed on the map. The 2017/2018 map gives the location and description of 46 direct sell farms including six farmers’ markets.
The free publication is produced annually by the Santa Cruz and Santa Clara County Farm Bureaus.
“The public has a unique opportunity to purchase over 100 different commodities directly from all of our direct-sell farms,” said Nita Gizdich, Country Crossroads president. “It makes for a very enjoyable family outing.”
Besides the website, the map may be obtained by sending a business size (#10) self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau, 141 Monte Vista Ave., Watsonville, CA 95076. Maps can also be picked up at the Farm Bureau between 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Larger quantities of maps can also be delivered to businesses upon request.

Cat adoption event set
SANTA CRUZ — On June 10, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter will host the “Meow Luau” Kitten and Cat Adoption event at SCCAS’ Santa Cruz shelter, 1001 Rodriguez St. (corner of Rodriguez and Seventh Avenue), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The goal of the event is to adopt cats and kittens into new homes during the busy summer season when there are many homeless animals entering shelters.
This event is a joint partnership between SCCAS and local animal welfare organization Heading Home Animal Rescue.
During the Meow Luau, all kitten and cat adoptions are $50. Adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip (including registration), age-appropriate vaccinations, routine treatment for fleas/worms, and a free pet wellness exam with local participating veterinarians.
Featured events include Michelle Kiba’s Ukulele Academy & Hula Dancers performing from noon-1:30 p.m.; SCCAS veterinarian Dr. Dana Gleason offering information on feline health and veterinary needs from 10-11 a.m.; and Robin Glascock offering a presentation on cat training (including a live demonstration of clicker training to teach tricks to cats) from 2-3 p.m. Refreshments, raffle prizes and a bake sale will be available at the event.
