WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville Police Department announced that Officer Juan Bribiesca is the new downtown officer.

Bribiesca is assigned to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), providing community-oriented, proactive police enforcement efforts focused in the downtown area.

Some of Bribiesca’s goals are to develop a strong working relationship with other city departments, community-based organizations, the downtown library and businesses and property owners.

Bribiesca will be visible and available to the downtown community and may work on foot or on a bicycle, according to Watsonville Police. His assignment will require that he not respond to regular calls for police service. Rather, Bribiesca will focus on long-term quality of life projects requiring specialized attention.

In an effort to eradicate and interrupt criminal behavior, Bribiesca will have the ability to utilize other department resources such as the CARE unit, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, the Auto Theft Task Force and the WPD Investigations bureau. He will also be available for educational police workshops in the downtown region.

Bribiesca can be reached by calling the non-emergency police line at 471-1151.
