Maria De Jesus Torres departed from earth to heaven on July 7, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones.  She lived to see 90 years.

Maria was born on October 12, 1926 in Coalcoman, Michoacan, Mexico to Gerarda Farias and Jesus Paz.

Maria loved all. Because of her compassion and mutual love for everyone, she was called Mamá Chuy by everyone who knew her. Maria had a very large family that she loved cooking for and often made them their favorite foods. Maria made the most of her days by gardening in her garden as well as checking up on her dear neighbors.

Maria is survived by her six daughters and three sons: daughter, Victoria Castillo Torres of Watsonville, daughter, Remijia (Micha) Torres of Kingsburg, son, Aureliano Torres (Socorro) of Aromas, son, Jose Torres (Maria) of Watsonville, daughter, Maria Espinoza-Torres of Watsonville, daughter, Rosario Torres-Gutierrez (Carlos) of Watsonville, daughter, Cristina Torres of Salinas, son, Rick Torres (Juliet) of Salinas, and daughter, Maria de Jesus Torres-Segura (Ricky) of Olivehurst; and 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren with one more due in September.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Jose Torres-Torres in 2006. Though our hearts are broken by the loss of our beloved Mamá Chuy we rejoice in the fact that she is reunited with the love of her life, Jose, whom she missed so much.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel located at 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville from 5-9 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Valley Catholic Church located at 2401 E.
