September 30, 1945~August 30, 2017

Rosa (Rosie) Florez passed away at her home surrounded by her family on August 30, 2017. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on September 30, 1945 to Daria and Eliseo Martinez

Rosie married her soul mate Daniel R. Florez on January 11, 1964. They shared 53 amazing and loving years together. The love they have for each other is so deep it cannot be explained.

Rosie worked with children at Pajaro Valley Unified School District for 30+ years. She especially wanted to keep an eye on her babies so she became a yard duty at each one of her children’s schools. After her youngest Raquel was a bit older, Rosie left her daughter’s school to continue with childcare at Freedom Day Care Center. She ultimately retired to care for and to teach all her grandchildren, which ended up being her biggest role as “Nana”. At the drop of a hat, be school, sports, friends or after school activities, Nana was always there to lend a hand and offer her support and love.

Amongst the devotion to her family, some of the things Rosie enjoyed most in life were: listening to Elvis, the beginning of the rock and roll era with a dash of country and western music. She also enjoyed being a “high roller” in Vegas, and a “platinum card holder” at all local Indian casinos. Rosie had a deep appreciation for her Oakland Raiders, Warriors, and her impressive collection of designer purses.

In addition to these passions, Rosie shared a special bond with her loyal companion, Bella, a dog whom she had for over a decade.

For all who knew Rosa, Rosie, Nana, or Teacher Rosie, you had a strong sense of her love, warmth, kindness and epic aura. She will be immensely missed, and her light and love will never burn out.

Rosie is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Florez; son Daniel M. Florez; daughters Regina Trinidad (Art Trinidad), Raquel Espinoza (Marco Espinoza), granddaughters, Jessica Florez, Alexis Trinidad and Sophia Espinoza; grandsons, Brandon Trinidad, Ruben D. Reyna, Nathen Reyna, Joshua Trinidad, Jorden Espinoza, Damien Espinoza, Tysen Espinoza and Deken Espinoza.  She is preceded in death by her son Joel Florez; and her parents Daria and Eliseo Martinez.

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Tuesday, September 5 from 5-9 pm with the rosary recited at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Pajaro on Wednesday, September 6 at 10 am and burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
