Dog training club raises funds for veterinary offices

WATSONVILLE — The Arts Building at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds was turned into a Winter Wonderland photography studio Oct. 10 as members of the nonprofit Monterey Bay Dog Training Club sponsored their annual fundraiser with Reg Schaffer of Dog Gone Digital.

For the past 11 years, the club has organized “Gifts from the Heart” which is given out around Valentine’s Day.

Money raised from the donated photographs is given to local veterinary offices on behalf of someone whose pet might otherwise not receive treatment. Last year, the club’s donation paid for veterinarian services for two elderly dogs and a cat. In years’ past donations have paid for lab work, surgery and medicines.

“Gifts from the Heart” is a club project started by Marilyn Runyan, a longtime member and continues today in her memory.
