Frances Heick, longtime resident of Watsonville, passed away September 24, 2017. She was 87 years old.
Frances was born on July 30, 1930 in Los Angeles, California, to John and Marie Van Hoven. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. Her jobs included working for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, doctors offices, and finally, Granite Construction Company, where she worked until retirement. After moving to Watsonville, she met her husband, Jim Heick. They were married in 1957.
Frances loved her family and friends. She also loved old movies, reading, not cooking, and especially, to go OUT! She never said no to an invitation, no matter how small. She especially enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, meals, plays, and gambling trips. She was an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, and was also a member of many other groups in Watsonville, including the Pajaro Valley Historical Society, SACO, and Senior Circle at Watsonville Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Van Hoven, her sister Virginia DeLuna, her brother Jim Van Hoven, her husband James H. Heick, and her daughter, Nancy A. Sykes. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Ken Lindberg, her beloved granddaughter Clara Lindberg, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank Sally Robin, Valley Convalescent Home, and Dr. O’Grady, for his good care and humor, and the nurses at Watsonville Hospital, especially Nurse Amy on the third floor, and ALL of the Critical Care Nurses, for their kindness, support, and comfort.
A funeral rosary and mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians, November 9, 2017, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady Help of Christians, or St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School, or the Pajaro Valley Historical Society.
