After a 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Julie Leonard died surrounded by her family at home Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017. She was 59.
Julie spent her youth hula-hooping, playing softball and volleyball, and later worked as an umpire at Ramsay Park. She worked at Burger King and UPS before deciding to stay home full time to raise her kids and volunteer with the Home and School Club at H.A. Hyde while her children attended classes there. She maintained her competitive nature throughout her adulthood, during which time she competed in (and won) many poker tournaments, loved rooting for the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco Giants, and played the fantasy league for MotoGP. She later worked at Taylor’s Hot Dogs before owning Julie’s Carnival Games. She also enjoyed taking mile-long walks around the neighborhood, growing pumpkins in her backyard, having pizza with the Atomic Moms, and spending time with family.
Julie was incredibly loving and devoted to her family. Every year, she and her family would camp at Laguna Seca for the motorcycle races. She and her husband would take regular trips to Reno and Tahoe to play poker, and together they took road trips to Seattle and Wisconsin and explored Mount Rushmore, Canada, and Washington, D.C.
Her positivity, kindness, and enthusiasm were contagious and served as a great example to all. Even in her final months, she was noticed for her gorgeous smile and kind nature. She’ll be remembered for being a loving light, and the beating heart of her family.
Julie is survived by her husband, Randy; children, Trisha and Danny; mother, Patty; siblings, Mike, Pat, Jim, Jeff, Tim, Lisa, Brian, and Steve; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Russ.
