The streak is over.

Cabrillo College halted its losing streak at five games with a 36-20 win over winless Gavilan College on Saturday at Gilroy High in American Golden Coast Conference action.

Cabrillo (2-7, 1-4) freshman running back Terrence Smith ran 23 times for 121 yards and two scores to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

Freshman quarterback Nick Martig completed 9 of 19 passing attempts for 222 yards and three touchdowns. He also tossed a pair of picks but the Cabrillo defense intercepted Gavilan (0-9, 0-5) three times and also held the Rams to just 108 yards rushing.

Casey Brown had two interceptions, while Shaq Floyd hauled in his seventh interception of the season.

Sophomore receiver Chris Easter made only two grabs but both went for scores. He had a 16-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and a 72-yarder in the third.

Freshman receiver Mitchell Harris also had a touchdown catch. His 55-yard scoring reception made it 23-7 at the half.

Virgil Powell, Robert Moore and Eliel Ehimare all recorded sacks for Cabrillo, which made nine stops in the backfield.

Cabrillo will finish off its first season under head coach Darren Arbet on Saturday at home against Merced College at 6 p.m.
