The Aptos High girls’ tennis team had its undefeated season come to a close on Tuesday in the second round of the Central Coast Section tournament via a 7-0 loss to the No. 2 seed Saratoga High in Saratoga.
Aptos finishes its season at 15-1 overall. The Mariners this season completed their second 12-0 undefeated run through the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League to capture the league title for the second straight season.
Saratoga, a two-time CCS champion and semifinalist last season, hosts No. 7 seed Monta Vista High today at 2 p.m.
Singles player Mia Totah and the doubles team of Lila and Rebecca Sampson will continue their season at next week’s CCS individual tournament at Bay Clun Courtside in Los Gatos.
Totah, the back-to-back SCCAL singles champ, starts her tournament run on Tuesday at noon against Salinas High’s Makayla Chassion. Both girls are unseeded.
The Sampson twins, meanwhile, play the unseeded pair of Erin Cole and Kate Perri from Menlo-Atherton at the same time and date.
The Sampsons last year stunned the double field by advancing to the semifinal round, a feat no singles player or doubles team from Santa Cruz County had accomplished in at least 30 years.
