WATSONVILLE — A 17-year-old male was shot multiple times in the torso Friday afternoon on Pine Street.

Emergency officials were quick to arrive at the scene where the victim remained conscious and alert and sat on the curb to answer questions.

Police secured a crime scene on Pine Street near West Beach Street where they found numerous bullet shell casings. Scores of witnesses gathered at the scene where they aided police with information.

According to police, the victim was sitting in his parked car when another vehicle, with an unknown description, approached at about 2:29 p.m. As the suspect vehicle drove by, several rounds were fired, striking the victim several times.

The victim was rushed to Watsonville Community Hospital and then flown to a trauma center by air ambulance.

The incident is still under investigation.
