WATSONVILLE — Jesus Alvarez died at Watsonville Community Hospital on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018. He was 91.
A native of Jalostotilan, Jalisco, Mexico, he lived in Watsonville since 1961. Mr. Alvarez worked in strawberries for 40 years. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, trips to Reno, and watching the Dodgers.
Mr. Alvarez is survived by his wife, Maria de Jesus, of the family home in Watsonville; his sons, Alfredo (Dina) and Ruben Alvarez of Watsonville, Arturo (Romelia) of Mexico and Johnny (Silvia) Alvarez of Hollister; daughter, Lupe Alvarez of Watsonville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria de Asuncion Alvarez; brother, Antonio; and sisters, Hermelinda and Guadalupe.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 22 from 5-9 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 23, 10 a.m. at Church of the Assumption. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
