Workshops set for Aptos Village home buyers

APTOS — The County of Santa Cruz is holding workshops for qualified buyers interested in purchasing one of 10 deed-restricted affordable homeownership units at the new Aptos Village project.

The 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes will be available to first-time homebuyers with household earnings at or below 120 percent of area median income.

Applications are due May 18, with a drawing to follow June 1.

Five Phase 1 units will be available during the initial drawing, including four 1-bedroom and one 2-bedroom units. Phase 2 will include five more units.

The units are being provided through Measure J, Santa Cruz County’s inclusionary housing program, which has provided more than 500 units of affordable housing since its passage in 1978.

Measure J pricing varies according to several factors that are still in flux, including interest rates and homeowner’s dues. Subject to change, the estimated price of the Aptos Village Measure J homes are expected to be $256,000 to $280,000 for a 1-bedroom; $296,000 to $322,000 for a 2-bedroom; and $338,000 to $363,000 for a 3-bedroom.

The workshops will take place at Rio Sands Hotel Conference Room, 116 Aptos Beach Drive. They will be held Feb. 28 from 6-7 p.m. in English and 7:30-8:30 p.m. in Spanish, and March 24 from 1-2 p.m. in English and 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Spanish.
