Linton Acliese had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Tynan Velasquez added 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals and the No. 9-seeded Cabrillo College men’s basketball team upset No. 8 Columbia College 60-50 in the second round of the CCCAA NorCal playoffs on Friday night in Sonora.

Lenorris Mincey chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Tanner Spence chimed in with seven points and six rebounds, and Kobe Ordonio finished with six points and six assists.

Cabrillo (17-10) travels to top-seeded City College of San Francisco on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks lost 80-69 to CCSF in early November. Cabrillo led 34-33 at the half.

WOMEN’S JC BASKETBALL

• Merced 80, Cabrillo 53 – Cabrillo College hung around for a bit, but ultimately could not keep pace with Merced College in a season-ending loss in the second round of the CCCAA NorCal playoffs on Saturday on the road.

Lauren Lacy had 13 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals, Grace Giguiere added 12 points and eight rebounds and Pauli Pappas finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals for Cabrillo, which finishes its historic season with a 20-5 record and its first conference title since 1979.

The Seahawks will lose Giguiere and Lacy, as well as forward Julissa Torres, a North Monterey County High alumna.

GIRLS WRESTLING

• Mosqueda goes 2-2 – Watsonville High senior wrestler Gianna Mosqueda went 2-2 in the 143-pound division of the California Interscholastic Federation championships at the Visalia Convention Center over the weekend.

The Central Coast Section champion at 143 pounds, Mosqueda lost her first match on Friday, but bounced back with a pair of wins before losing a heartbreaker by a 7-6 decision.

JC BASEBALL

• Santa Rosa 10, Cabrillo 6 – Cabrillo College dropped its fifth straight game on Saturday.

Kai Moody was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Josh Lane finished 2-for-4 with a double and two scored runs. Ivan Perez drove in a pair of runs.

Greg Neiger suffered the loss after two innings of work. He allowed five hits and five runs, none of which were earned.

Cabrillo (3-12) hosts Chabot College today at 2 p.m.

JC SOFTBALL

• Cabrillo splits – The Cabrillo College Seahawks split a Sunday afternoon double-header against West Hills Coalinga, scoring a 2-1 win and suffering a 12-3 loss.

Cabrillo (4-7) travel to Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday at 3 p.m. for its Coast Conference South division opener.

HS BASEBALL

• MVC 11, Soquel 2 (8 innings) – Monte Vista Christian exploded for nine runs in the eighth inning to beat Soquel High in a preseason contest on Friday night.

Thomas Avila hit a double, had two RBIs, and scored a run. Marshall Silva was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a scored run. Colin Bright also doubled, drove in a run and scored a run. Ian Koenig went 2-for-4 with two scored runs and a walk.

Jacob Beardsley drove in a pair of runs and scored once at the plate, while also picking up the win on the mound after seven solid innings of work. He allowed five hits, one earned run and two walks, while striking out seven.

HS SOFTBALL

• Soquel 11, MVC 11 – Samantha Baer and Sarah Kashani both hit three-run homers in Monte Vista Christian’s preseason tie against Soquel High on Friday.

Haley Hollingsworth also drove in three runs, while Isabel Hollingsworth, Mattea Romo and Kirsten Pederson all hit a double.

M.V.C. (1-1-1) hosts Watsonville High on Thursday at 4 p.m.

• Aptos drops pair – The Aptos High Mariners lost 7-5 to Linden High, and 13-7 to Pacific Grove High on Saturday in a double-header at home.

Shea Garcia was 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three scored runs in the loss to Linden, and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run in the second game.

Ashley Del Colletti starred in the loss to P.G., going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a scored run.
Aptos (2-2) hosts Seaside High today 4 p.m.

G LEAGUE BASKETBALL

• South Bay 125, Santa Cruz 101 – In their first game back from the All-Star break, the Santa Cruz Warriors lost for the fifth time in the last six games on Sunday night.

Newly acquired guard Jabari Brown had 20 points, while Chris Boucher, C.J. Wilcox and Terrence Jones all added 13 points for Santa Cruz (19-19), which was without two-way guard Quinn Cook and forward Damion Lee.

Cook was with the Golden State Warriors, seeing minutes in the team’s blowout win over Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.

Lee was selected to Team U.S.A. for the Fiba World Cup qualifying happening at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz. The Americans beat Cuba 84-48 on Friday night.

The Warriors will look to get back on track today in Ontario against the Agua Caliente Clippers at 7 p.m.
