People check out the various exhibits at the 30th annual Santa Cruz County Science and Engineering Fair at the fairgrounds Saturday. More than 400 students, in grades kindergarten through 12th, took part in the event. A special ceremony to hand out awards will take place March 19 at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church St., from 7-9 p.m.

A fifth generation Californian, Tarmo was born in the Mother Lode of the Sierra (Columbia) and has lived in Santa Cruz County since the late 1970s.
