Mary (Connie) Gamez Gonzalez died peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was 82.

She was born on May 30, 1935 and was a native of Lincoln, Neb. Mrs. Gonzalez lived in Watsonville for 70 years. She had worked for Del Mar Cannery for 25 years, from which she retired. She also worked at picking raspberries with her children from George Cowel. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was an early bird. She was at the spa Monday through Friday, waiting for the doors to open. She had her farm animals that kept her busy. She was much of a character and she enjoyed making people laugh. She also loved selling and going to yard sales on the weekends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro Gonzalez; and her daughter, Lola. She is survived by four sons; two daughters; two brothers; two sisters; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 12 from 5-9 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Rosary and Mass will take place April 13 at 1 p.m. at Valley Catholic Church followed by the committal at Valley Public Cemetery. Mehl’s Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
