Bonilla was charged with contacting a minor with the intent of committing a sex crime and attempted lewd or lascivious act with a minor, both felonies. He was also charged with annoying or molesting a minor and driving on a suspended license, which are misdemeanors.
He was not in custody Friday, jail records showed.
According to Watsonville Police Sgt. Mish Radich, Bonilla contacted a 15-year-old after he got the name and phone number from a gym membership application.
After the victim reported the solicitation to police, WPD detectives continued to communicate with Bonilla via text message while posing as the “victim,” Radich said.
Detectives were waiting for Bonilla when he arrived for the meeting on Thursday.
It is unknown if Bonilla contacted any other minors. Anyone with information is asked to contact WPD Detective Rudy Lopez at 768-3357.
