The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs might not have had the season of their dreams, but they did finish off their rebuilding campaign with a chimerical performance on Wednesday evening.
M.V.C. thumped Alisal High, 17-2, in Monterey Bay League Pacific division action to finish off its season with a 7-16-1 overall record and a 4-10 league standing.
Senior Mattea Romo and junior Samantha Baer both went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two scored runs for the Mustangs, who racked up 20 hits in the victory.
Senior Jessica Hoefling also finished 4-for-4, while adding an RBI and two scored runs. Senior Mariah Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three scored runs. Senior Isabel Hollingsworth doubled, knocked in two runs and scored once.
Romo picked up the win in the circle. She allowed four hits, an earned run and two walks in four innings, while striking out four.
Baer pitched a perfect frame to secure the five-inning win for M.V.C.
The Mustangs will graduate eight seniors: Savannah Kraemer, Sarah Kashani, Kirsten Pederson, Syerra Montes, Gonzalez, Hoefling, Romo and Hollingsworth.

DOUBLING UP
St. Francis High senior Anna Noto had four doubles over three games, including her two extra-base hits in the Sharks’ 4-1 upset of Aptos High on Tuesday.
Noto was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run for St. Francis in its statement win.
‘CATZ CHANCE
Thanks to the Christopher High Cougars’ 3-2 win over San Benito High on Tuesday, Watsonville High had a chance of capturing its first-ever Monterey Bay League Gabilan division title on Thursday night.

Watsonville helped itself with an impressive 12-1 win over San Benito on May 3.
The Wildcatz, who will advance to the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs, pounded out 12 hits, including seven doubles and two home runs. Freshmen Maya Guerrero and Anastacia Alba each cleared the fence.
LINES OF THE WEEK (May 3-9)
• Watsonville High freshman Anastacia Alba was 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs, three scored runs and a walk in the Wildcatz’s 12-1 rout over San Benito High on May 3.
• St. Francis High sophomore Claire Cagnacci was 2-for-4 with two homers, two RBIs and two scored runs in the Sharks’ 10-4 win over Soledad High on Monday.
GAME OF THE WEEK (May 11-17)
Aptos vs San Lorenzo Valley, May 11, 4 p.m. — This one is for all the marbles. The Mariners welcome in the Cougars to determine the SCCAL championship.
Aptos has not won a league title since the 2011 season.
S.L.V. last year tied with Scotts Valley High for the SCCAL crown.
The Mariners won the first meeting, 8-3, in Felton behind brilliance of junior pitcher Julia Cano on the mound and her four-hit performance at the plate.
