Connor Tran saw his standout senior season at Monte Vista Christian end at Tuesday’s Central Coast Section Championships at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey.
Tran fired a 7-over-par 78 to finish tied for 46th with Gunn High’s Andy Zhou and Stevenson’s Ji Woo Park.
It was Tran’s first trip to the CCS Championships after falling short each of the last two seasons. He punched his ticket by carding a 74 at last week’s regional round on the same course.
Tran this season led M.V.C. to a Monterey Bay League Pacific division championship and was also named the division’s Most Valuable Player after carding a league-best 73 at the MBL Championships, which also took place at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.
Tran also earned a spot on the MBL-P First Team with teammates Dennis Yang and Ben Holdaway, while the Mustangs were awarded the team Sportsmanship Award.
He was the lone local golfer on the course on Tuesday.
Archbishop Mitty’s Daniel Kim won the individual CCS title with a 67, and St. Francis-Mountain View won the team title over Menlo School, 358-362.
St. Francis-Mountain View and Menlo will advance to the CIF NorCal Championships at Woodbridge Golf Course in Woodbridge on Monday. Palma High edged Bellarmine by one stroke, 372-373, to take third and also advance to NorCals.
Carmel High’s George McNeely (69), Menlo-Atherton’s Jackson Lee (69) and The Harker School’s Daulet Tuleubayev (70) will join Kim at NorCals as individual qualifiers.
