AVONDALE, Ariz. — The Avondale, Ariz. City Council voted unanimously Monday to accept Watsonville City Manager Charles Montoya as its next city manager.

The item, on the council’s consent agenda, passed with no discussion.

Montoya, who has served as Watsonville’s city manager since late 2015, will start in Avondale on July 30, according to the contract.

He will be paid a salary of $210,000, in addition to benefits. Montoya is currently paid $222,000 plus benefits in Watsonville.

Located about 18 miles west of Phoenix, Avondale has a population of 76,238, according to the United States Census Bureau.
