Relay For Life fundraiser scheduled
WATSONVILLE — The Pink Angels will hold a barbecue chicken fundraiser for Relay For Life on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carmona’s BBQ Deli, 1040 East Lake Ave.
The plate, for dine-in or take-out, includes a chicken leg, rice, beans, salad and french bread. Tickets are $12.
All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Candlelight vigil marks two years since Orlando shooting
WATSONVILLE — Pajaro Valley Pride and Conexiones of the Diversity Center are holding a candlelight vigil in Watsonville in honor of the 49 people who were killed at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in 2016.
The vigil will be held at the Watsonville Plaza on Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Caballero announces mobile office date
WATSONVILLE — Assemblywoman Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) will hold office hours in Watsonville on Tuesday from 1:30-5 p.m. at 275 Main St., Suite 400.
Field representatives will be available to meet with constituents on a drop-in basis or by appointment. They will assist constituents with issues and services involving the state government, including the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV), Unemployment & Disability Insurance, veterans’ benefits, Medi-Cal and Covered California. Constituents can also receive information on consumer protection, state agency phone numbers, State Capitol tours, government forms and publications, and legislative services, including updates on legislative bills.

Congressman’s staff to hold office hours
WATSONVILLE — Congressman Jimmy Panetta’s (CA-20) staff will hold mobile office hours on June 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Watsonville Public Library, 275 Main St., Suite 100.
Staff members will assist with issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, federal employee retirement, immigration services, veterans’ services, passports, searching for military records, and any other federal matters.

Camp trains students on cyber security
WATSONVILLE — Cabrillo College is hosting a summer CyberCamp featuring five days of introductory cyber security training.
The workshop is geared toward sixth- to 12th-graders with basic computer experience and an interest in cyber security.
It will take place at Cabrillo College’s Watsonville campus, 318 Union St., from July 16-20.
Training modules developed by the CyberPatriot program cover a variety of topics including hacking prevention, system hardening, access control and system protection. The five-day program ends with a team competition and awards.

CASA offering daytime training
WATSONVILLE — CASA of Santa Cruz County is offering daytime training in the summer for those wanting to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
Training to become a CASA typically takes place two nights a week from 6-9 p.m. for five weeks. CASA of Santa Cruz County is now offering a special daytime training that will take place Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for two weeks.
Those interested do not have to be a lawyer or social worker to volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA volunteers are everyday people, trained by CASA and then appointed by judges to advocate for the safety of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers are supported by a staff supervisor and are part of a team that works in the best interests of the child.
A CASA volunteer spends time with his or her child each week, gathering information from everyone involved in the child’s case. CASA volunteers also work with attorneys and social workers. They review records, research information, and talk to anyone involved with the child, including parents, extended family members, doctors and teachers.
Although there is a need for bilingual and male volunteers, CASA always encourages people from all cultures and professions and of all ethnic and educational backgrounds to learn more.

Book event benefits SPCA
CAPITOLA — Local author Linda Gunther will sign copies of her book, “Toffee and Esmerelda,” on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Capitola Mall SPCA.
The children’s book follows a young girl who meets SPCA volunteers who are walking three adoptable dogs. The story aims to teach children about the pet adoption process.
Twenty-five percent of all book sale proceeds will go to the SPCA.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — At a luncheon on May 22, Santa Cruz Parlor No. 26 of the Native Daughters of the Golden West awarded eight $5,000 scholarships to high school graduates of Santa Cruz County.

The Santa Cruz Parlor No. 26, celebrated its 130-year anniversary in March.
The May B. Wilkin/Phyrne Lorenz Scholarship funds were given to the Parlor by two of its members. Annual scholarships have been awarded to local high school and Cabrillo College students since 1998.
