WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man was arrested Friday after he allegedly ran from a police officer during a routine contact, climbed onto the roof of a garage and threw objects at police officers, Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.
Noe Gomez, 39, was taken to Dominican Hospital for evaluation, and then booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, both felonies.
According to Pulido, a police officer contacted Gomez for improperly crossing the road, which is a violation of Watsonville Municipal Code. He then ran from the officer down an alleyway off Marchant Street, climbed to the roof of a house and refused to come down.
There, Gomez allegedly threw sandbags and rocks at the officers.
Officers from WPD, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Less than an hour later, an officer convinced Gomez to come down.
