The Santa Cruz Breakers FC solidified its second-place standing in the PDL Southwest Division by splitting a pair of games last weekend.

The Breakers (6-4-2) beat the Ventura County Fusion on June 29 at Monterey Peninsula College, but lost on Sunday night against San Francisco City FC at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Alvaro Madrigal and Willy Miranda scored in the Breakers’ 2-0 victory over the Fusion (5-5-1), which sits in third place four points behind the Breakers heading into this weekend’s action.

Santa Cruz travels to the V.C. Sportsplex on Saturday for a rematch against the Fusion at 7 p.m.

CYCLING

• Criterium returns Saturday – The Watsonville Criterium will be back for its 41st installment on Saturday, showcasing some of the top amateur riders from California and Nevada.

The 0.75-mile loop will shut down portions of Rogers Ave., California St., Oregon St., Brewington Ave. and Cerritos Terrace near Mintie White Elementary and E.A. Hall Middle from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

YOUTH SOFTBALL

• Tremblers win tournament – The 10U tremblers took first place in the USSA double double tournament on June 24 at the Fremont Sports Complex.

The Tremblers, a softball team out of Watsonville, won three straight games to earn a spot in the championship game, where they beat the San Francisco Waves for the title.
