A big rig ended up on its side on the northbound entrance to Highway 101 at Highway 129 Thursday in Aromas around 10:30 a.m. The crash forced officials to close down the freeway entrance for about two hours. California Highway Patrol officer Michael Sakamoto said a 58-year-old Royal Oaks man was traveling eastbound on Highway 129 at an undetermined speed. “He exited toward Highway 101 northbound in a clover leaf onramp. His unsafe speed for the roadway and conditions allowed his load of anchovies to shift and the truck and trailer overturned onto its left side, blocking the onramp,” Sakamoto said. The driver was able to self-extricate from the truck after suffering a minor laceration to his arm. He was treated on scene. Caltrans assisted with the temporary closure of the onramp. “The collision is still under investigation and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision,” Sakamoto said.
