SANTA CRUZ — Two police officers from Concord were injured Wednesday when they were struck by a vehicle while performing a high-risk car stop on a wanted fugitive.

According to Concord Police Cpl. Summer Galer, Concord Police detectives and officers were in Santa Cruz looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a felony arrest warrant in an ongoing investigation.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Trista Drake, the officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Ocean Street and Broadway at about 3:18 p.m. when a Santa Cruz woman driving a 2001 Honda struck them and their vehicle, an unmarked 2016 Ford Explorer.

The collision was unrelated to the investigation, Galer said.

One officer suffered serious injuries, and was taken to Dominican Hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to be a cause, Drake said.
