WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville Woman’s Club held its first meeting of the season Friday, when they handed out $5,000 worth of scholarships to six recent high school graduates.
The Louise Bilicich Scholarship is named for the longtime Watsonville High School physical education teacher who died in 2014.
The Watsonville Woman’s Club Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Watsonville Woman’s Club, gives out several other scholarships every year.
The scholarships are made possible by donations from Woman’s Club members, community members and from local businesses.
“We think it’s important because it’s something we do out there in the community,” Woman’s Club member Rhea DeHart said.
The club also awarded a $500 DeLois Bogart Scholarship.
