Guadalupe “Al” Alcala was ushered to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 27, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones in Modesto, California. As he always said, “The day I stop working is the day I die.” He was close to this; he worked at his insurance business a week before his passing.
He was born May 15, 1933 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He was a man of a strong work ethic, starting in the fields as a child in Hanford, CA, and proudly served his country in the military for the United States Army.
He brought his family from San Jose to Watsonville to work at Ford’s Department Store. From there he worked on his own businesses and was involved in the community of Watsonville. He always had a love for the people of his community and was very proud of being part of the city council and Mayor of Watsonville. He continued with many other careers, ending his long line of businesses with Alcala Insurance in Modesto.
Al left behind many loved ones, including his children: Patricia Ann Verzosa, Richard Alcala, Anthony Alcala, Diane Steverson, and Marie Alcala; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his baby sister Sally Tolentino, and many nieces and nephews.
He also left behind his loving wife, Lourdes Alcala, and his stepchildren: Lillian Melgoza, Manuel Melgoza, and Luis Melgoza in Modesto, CA.
