WATSONVILLE — Daniel Dodge Jr. has pulled ahead of Pajaro Valley Unified School District incumbent trustee Willie Yahiro in the race for the Trustee Area 4 seat, election results updated Tuesday showed.

Dodge now holds an edge of just 11 votes in the race, a nail-biter that has become the closest among the local election.

Yahiro, who has held his seat since 1990, started the election with a comfortable lead over Dodge, which has dwindled as elections staff counted the ballots.

If Dodge wins, it would be a triple victory for local unions, in particular the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, which earlier this year endorsed Dodge. PVFT also endorsed Jennifer Schacher, who trounced incumbent Trustee Leslie De Rose. Monday’s update shows Schacher with 67.7 percent of the vote.

PVFT also endorsed Jennifer Holm, who won in a landslide over Bill Beecher with 72.5 percent. The two were running for the Trustee Area 7 seat.

The updated results showed most other races remaining stable.

Santa Cruz County Clerk Gail Pellerin said that the final results will be available on Dec. 6.
