Placida Carrillo passed away peacefully at home Saturday, December 8, 2018 in Los Angeles, CA surrounded by family. She was 89 years old.
She was born October 3, 1929 in Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. She relocated to Watsonville in 1966 where she lovingly raised her family while working 12 years for local farms and 15 years for Green Giant/Pillsbury.
Family, religion, cooking and gardening were her passions. She was happiest surrounded by her family with the sounds of music and laughter while the aroma of her cooking filled the home. She spent most of her free time working in her garden, which received recognition by the Beautification Committee of the City of Watsonville on two occasions. She was recognized by the City of Watsonville as Mother of the Year in 1976. The Latino Chamber of Commerce also recognized her for her success and contributions to the community in 1997.
She is survived by her 10 children: Cristofina Carrillo, Maurilio (Anita) Carrillo, Angelina (Steve) Crisostomo, Alvaro (Beatriz) Carrillo, Victor (Marta) Carrillo, Stella (Steve) White, Esther Palacios, Francisca (Ben) Benavidez, Ignacio (Eunice) Carrillo, and Margarita Carrillo; 16 grandchildren: Benjamin, Melissa, Elizabeth, Veronica, James, Alvaro, Jacqueline, Edward, Alejandro, Kristine, Marco, Benjamin, Sara, Helen, Bryan and Brandon; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Salvador Carrillo, and son-in-law Joe Carrillo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Church on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
