WATSONVILLE — A young couple from Spokane, Wash. sauntered through Watsonville and the Monterey Bay recently on a bicycle trip from their home to Santa Barbara.

Stormy Given and Todd Richards said they enjoyed the relaxing setting of local agricultural fields and the mild climate.

“People have been friendly and helpful along the way,” Richards said. “We’re in no hurry and just take it as it comes.”
They’ve been averaging about 70 miles a day.

“There are more good days than bad,” Given said.

They said they planned to hug the coast to their destination.
