Abel Campos died at his home in Watsonville September 12, 2018.
Born January 4, 1951 in Merced, CA to Sally H. Campos, of Texas and Joseph P. Campos Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, he attended elementary schools in Merced, and finished jr. high and high school in Watsonville. He also attended Cabrillo College in Aptos and Hartnell College in Salinas.
Abel started working while in high school at Heights Mkt. As a young adult, he was at Pacific Extrusion, and later at Granite Rock, where he retired after 38 years. He was a huge part of our community, helping deliver food to seniors, assisting with the air shows, and volunteering just about everywhere for anything he could do. His volunteer work was with Rod and Gun Club, Elks Lodge 1300, American Legion Post 121 of Watsonville, American Legion Post 593 of Prunedale, and Santa Cruz Fairgrounds. Abel was a paramedic with A-1 Ambulance of Watsonville, a volunteer fireman with Watsonville Fire Dept., & CDF. He also, belonged to the International Machinist Union.
He leaves his family: son Brian (Donna) Campos of Hollister, and daughter Katrina Dymoke of Watsonville; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Helen L. (David) Jones of Merced, Becky A. Renaud, and Cathy S. (Dana) Bennett of Watsonville; and 2 brothers: Manuel J. Campos of Hollister, and Frank A. (Angie) Campos, and his beloved dog Jake.
Abel enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with family & friends, and volunteering. His greatest enjoyment was helping wherever was needed. He had a big heart. He will be missed and always loved.
A Rosary and Chapel Blessing will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. A reception will follow at the Pajaro Valley Rod and Gun Club, 557 Lakeview Rd., Watsonville. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
