Students at Aptos High Drama Production will present “Peter Pan and Wendy!” April 24-26 at their campus theater.

The play features Jake Semb as Peter Pan and Lemoni Anastasopoulos as Tinkerbell in this reimagined take on a classic children’s tale.

“This show is different from the classic story, you know,” said drama teacher Stacy Aronovici. “This reimagining by Lauren Gunderson focuses on female heroism, and the meaning behind Neverland’s existence.”

On stage, students of all grades work through whether Wendy (Mercy Nigh, 12th grade) is destined to be a mother or a scientist, and whether Tiger Lily (Hayden Torres, 11th grade) is a victim or hero.

It also questions whether Peter Pan is the hero or the villain of the story.

Every character must decide their place in Neverland, and their place in the real world, Aronovici said.

The vicious Captain Hook (senior Kanoa Asistin)  is not simply after the defeat of his nemesis, he wants to be the hero of the story, while John Darling (Grey Shingu, 12th grade) wants to be the hero too.

The play was written by Mercy Nigh.

“This show has everything,” Aronovici said. “Magical creatures? Of course. Adventure? Every day. Irresponsible behavior with no consequence? Obviously. It’s perfect. Does it sound compelling to you? Come see the show and decide for yourself.”

There will be four performances, with doors opening a half an hour before curtain.

April 24, at 7pm; April 25, at 7pm; April 26, at 2pm and 7pm.

Performances will be held in the Aptos High School Performing Arts Center, 100 Mariner Way off of Freedom Boulevard.

Tickets available at the door;  pay what you will, with a suggested donation of $10.
