
Aptos senior Isaiah Ackerman and Santa Cruz junior DeMarco Hunter were named the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League’s co-Most Valuable Players for the 2024-25 boys’ basketball season.
According to statistics on the Max Preps website, Ackerman had an average of 20.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in 31 games played for the SCCAL champion Mariners, who went 12-1 against league opponents this season.
Hunter had an average of 25.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 33 games played for the Cardinals, who defeated the Mariners to capture the Central Coast Section Division III championship March 1.
Aptos head coach Brian Bowyer was named this season’s Coach of the Year by his peers within the league. He led the Mariners to a 25-6 overall record, and a trip to the CCS D-III finals and California Interscholastic Federation NorCal D-III playoffs.
Ackerman and Hunter each also earned All-SCCAL First Team honors along with Aptos senior Nick Tovani, Santa Cruz senior Mosiah Cumberbatch, Scotts Valley seniors Jacob Sanders and Will Shilling, and Soquel senior Nico Ramirez.
Tovani finished with an average of 13.4 points and 4 rebounds per game for the Mariners, while Cumberbatch had an average of 7.3 points per game for the Cardinals.
