Behind-the-scenes work by a Watsonville Police detective led to the arrest of a convicted felon who now faces several charges.
The suspect, 37-year-old Oscar Madriz, was arrested after the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team (SCCACT) served a search warrant at his home on the 100 block of Stephen Road in Aptos on Monday. There, police found nearly three kilos of cocaine with a street value of about $160,000, heroin, several firearms, more than $62,000 in cash, cash counters, and a large amount of illegal fireworks, said WPD spokeswoman Michelle Pulido.
The warrant was authored by a Watsonville Police detective assigned to SCCACT.
During the search, CHP K9 Rae led officers to a closet in the home where she detected drugs, police said.
Madriz was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on multiple felony charges.
SCCACT is a local multiagency task force comprised of personnel and other resources from law enforcement agencies in Santa Cruz County, including the WPD.
