The Pajaronian’s Athletes of the Week were selected based on their performances during the week of Oct. 14-20. Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to submit nominations to sports editor Juan Reyes at [email protected]

Boys

Erik Michi (Jr.), Pajaro Valley

The standout runner continues to shine for the Grizzlies boys’ cross country team this season. During the Pacific Coast Athletic League Center No. 3, Michi took fourth in 17 minutes, 47 seconds—which tied a school record—in the Santa Lucia Division 2.93-mile race at Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville on Oct. 16. His finish also helped Pajaro Valley place second as a team in last week’s race, and they are currently in second place overall in the league standings behind York School. Michi had another strong outing by placing 63rd in 17:49 at the 41st P. Wilder Mariner Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 19.

Girls

Kylie Brunelli (Sr.), Monte Vista Christian

The Mustangs’ star runner won her second league race of the cross country season after she finished with the fastest overall time of 19:57 in last week’s PCAL Center Meet No. 3 on Oct. 17. Brunelli added to what is already a tremendous month after she won the girls’ varsity medium blue 5,000-meter race in 18:56.4 at the 45th Annual ASICS Clovis Invitational on Oct. 12. Prior to that, she took fourth in 14:55 in the 2.3-mile small schools race at the Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay on Oct. 5.
