Bertha F. Elias died surrounded by her family at Watsonville Community Hospital April 1, 2019. She was 76.
A native of Gomez Farias, Michoacan, Mexico, she lived in Watsonville for 41 years. Mrs. Elias worked in the strawberries for 40 years. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Elias is survived by her sons, Jose, Jr. (Sylvia), and Ramon (Teresa) Elias, and Miguel (Araceli) Magdaleno; daughters, Bertha (Miguel) Magdaleno, Gloria (Manuel Hernandez) Elias, and Veronica (Edgardo) Cortes; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose, in 2006, and her sister, Guadalupe Clemente.
The visitation and funeral service will be held Monday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with the service at 7 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Cemetery.
