APTOS — A Soquel man was arrested Friday after he was reportedly caught burglarizing his former Aptos residence.

Alfonso Lopez, 48, was charged with first-degree burglary. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, an Aptos resident who was a victim of a previous burglary set up motion detector cameras in the locked residence, and placed fake $100 bills inside.

When the cameras alerted the residents that someone was inside, the residents saw the burglar inside and called 911.

Deputies found Lopez hiding in his vehicle down the street with a fist full of the fake money.
