There are two businesses that are getting closer to an opening date. The first is Laundry Day on the corner of Brennan Street and East Lake Avenue. Crews took down the cyclone fences that surrounded the former Union Bank for the past two years (or more) and, on Friday, finished some major parking lot repair and upgrades. There are still huge steel plates sprinkled around both the streets there covering major underground utility line upgrades. But their signage is up and appliances are all there indoors.
Then, around the corner, Samaya’s Flooring and Design Center, in the former Van’s Shoes, 14 East Lake Ave., now has a front showroom visible after someone tore out the paper covering in the front windows. I don’t have opening dates on either one of these places.
Additionally, I’ve looked into the construction project of Grace Harbor Women’s Center, 55 Brennan St., and the crew there has torn out a large part of the interior to make way for the 90-bed shelter that will also house a kitchen, café, offices and other facilities.

There is a slight chance of showers this evening and into Saturday morning. Otherwise it will be mostly sunny Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
