Cabrillo College announced Monday that head football coach Justin Hansen will take a formal family medical leave of absence effective immediately.
Hansen is expected to be away from his coaching duties through the end of the spring semester, with the possibility of extending into the fall. An interim head coach has not been named yet.
During his absence, current Cabrillo assistant coaches will collectively step up to manage the program’s operations.
The coaches will focus on student-athlete development such as maintaining the academic and athletic growth of Cabrillo’s current roster, according to a press release issued by the school.
They will be actively recruiting top-tier talent and executing a rigorous spring training program to ensure the Seahawks are ready for their 2026 fall campaign.
“We have the utmost confidence in our assistant coaches to uphold the strong tradition of Seahawk Football,” Cabrillo College Athletic Director Mark Ramsey said. “They are prepared, professional and deeply committed to our student-athletes. While we will miss Coach Hansen’s presence, Cabrillo College fully supports his decision.”
Ramsey will provide further updates regarding the coaching leadership as they become available.
“We are still going strong and looking forward to the 2026 season,” Ramsey said in a text message.
