Capitola Police on Tuesday arrested a burglary suspect after a chase that involved numerous law enforcement officials, and which closed down the streets surrounding the Shadowbrook restaurant.

The 37-year-old suspect was not identified. He was charged with resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the Capitola Police Department, citizens flagged down officers near Wharf Road and Grace Street at about 3:15pm saying they had been victims of a burglary that occurred in the City of Santa Cruz.

The victims said they tracked the suspects to a parking lot in the 1700 block of Wharf Road in Capitola.

The officers located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victims, and as they approached, two adult male suspects fled on foot.

One suspect ran toward the Soquel Creek area, and police established a perimeter with help from the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

With the help of a CHP K9 Unit, drone teams from Capitola Police and the Sheriff’s Office and Capitola Police Detectives, the suspect was found hiding in dense brush along Soquel Creek near the lower deck of the Shadowbrook restaurant.

The second suspect has not been found.

Initial reports indicated that one of the suspects may have been armed, but no weapon has been recovered.

As a precaution, a temporary shelter-in-place advisory was issued for nearby neighborhoods and businesses during the search.

This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Capitola Police Department at 831.471.1141.
