APTOS — The Fifth Annual Carrie’s Dream Dance Scholarship Showcase and Auction will take place this Sunday at Aptos High School.
Two distinct family-friendly performances will feature more than 150 dancers, ages 4 to 21. Each show will include ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz and hip hop pieces performed by students from the following local dance studios: Agape Dance Academy (Scotts Valley and Aptos), Aptos High School Dance Team, International Academy of Dance (Santa Cruz), Pacific Arts Complex (Santa Cruz and Watsonville), Sammy’s Animation Dance Community (Hollister), Truckee Dance Factory (Truckee) and the UCSC Dance Team.
Proceeds from ticket sales and both live and silent auctions benefit the Carrie’s Dream Dance Scholarship Fund, which was created in memory of the late dance studio owner and teacher Carrie Dianda McCoid. Many of the dancers performing on Sunday are recipients of the scholarship.
Since its inception, Carrie’s Dream, which began as a project of the Pacific Arts Complex, has raised more than $127,000 for youth dance in Santa Cruz County. The nonprofit organization aims to make it over the $150,000 mark this year.
Performances will be held at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m on Sunday at the Aptos High School Performing Arts Center, 100 Mariner Way in Aptos.
General admission tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door (if available). Special VIP reserved seating is available for $30.
