
Watsonville senior Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar won both the long jump and triple jump events at the Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division Track and Field Championship at Rancho San Juan High School on May 2.
Aceves-Aguilar was victorious in the long jump with a hop of 19 feet, 11-1/2 inches, edging Stevenson senior Kekoa Williams (19-7 1/4) in second and Monterey junior Quinn Johnson (19-6 3/4) in third.
The Wildcatz’s standout athlete won the triple jump with a leap of 39-6 3/4, beating Stevenson sophomore Barak De La Rosa (38-5 3/4) in second and King City senior Santiago Camacho (38-5 1/2) in third.
Watsonville placed third as a team with a score of 77 points, finishing behind Stevenson (115) in second and this year’s Mission Division champion King City (169).
Aceves-Aguilar also took second in the 110 hurdles in 18.71, while teammates senior Gerardo Acosta-Perez (18.75) and freshman Noel Navarro (19.26) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Navarro (44.36) was also runner-up in the 300 hurdles behind King City junior Izaiah Valencia (43.95).
Watsonville junior Lisandro Pantoja (156-5) was slightly edged by Monterey junior Kitiona Tautolo (156-8) in the discus. Pantoja (43-4) also placed third in the shot put behind Tautolo (50-11) in first and King City junior Johell Carillo (43-6) in second.

PCAL Cypress Division
Monte Vista Christian junior Conor Gilliam won the 800 in 1:58.32 at the PCAL Cypress Division Championship at Pacific Grove High on May 2. Teammate junior Owen Bingham won the 110 meter hurdles in 18.81 seconds, while the 4×400 relay team—Patrick Tracey, Conor Gilliam, Gavin Beckmen and Joshua Tepoorten—won their race in 3:32.13.
Junior Gavin Beckmen placed second in the 3200 in 10:11.82 and third in the 1600 in 4:36.65, while teammate senior Joshua Tepoorten placed second in the 400 in 50.98 and fourth in the 200 in 23.33.
Sophomore Isaiah Ortega (11-9) placed third in the pole vault for MVC, which finished third as a team with a score of 90. Pacific Grove won the Cypress Division title with a score of 161, followed by North Salinas (97) in second.
PCAL Santa Lucia
Pajaro Valley senior Izaak Ocampo won three events to help the Grizzlies capture the PCAL Cypress Division Championship at Greenfield High on May 2.
The Grizzlies’ standout athlete was victorious in the 100 meter dash in 11.61 seconds, narrowly edging St. Francis junior Josephy Dayrit (11.68) in second and Soledad senior Julio Camacho (11.78) in third.
Pajaro Valley won the team title with a score of 126 points, followed by St. Francis (118) in second and Soledad (85) in third. In the 200, Ocampo (24.55) edged Soledad senior Evan Carrillo (24.98) and Kirby Prep freshman Oliver Dooley (25.41).
Ocampo leaped to victory in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 11-1/2 inches, beating out St. Francis junior Coy Jordan (18-4 1/2) in second and PV sophomore Andrew Chavez (18-0) in third.
PV junior Erik Michi (2:16.29) took second in the 800, while St. Francis senior Johnny Corghan (2:18.15) placed third. Michi also placed third in the 1600 meters in 5:06.32, while teammate junior Luis Martinez took third in the 3200 in 11:07.18.
PV senior Luis Torres won the discus with a throw of 150 feet, 10 inches, while teammate senior Aron Bernabe (39-2) took second in the shot put event.
St. Francis senior Derek Anderson won both the 110 and 300 hurdles in 18.19 and 48.05, respectively, while PV junior Giovanni Villanueva placed second in the 110 and 300 hurdles in 18.71 and 48.11, respectively.
St. Francis juniors Jacob Jimenez and Robert Gomez Jr. finished 1-2 in the high jump with marks of 5 feet, 8 inches. Jimenez also won the triple jump with a leap of 40-2.
Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League
Aptos seniors Logan Brantley and Casey MacConnell each won a pair of events to help the Mariners capture a second consecutive league crown at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Championship at Aptos High on May 3.
Brantley continued his dominance in both the shot put and discus, launching his way to victory with throws of 55 feet, 5 1/2 inches and 155-5, respectively. MacDonnell showed off his leg strength by winning the high jump and long jump with marks of 6-2 and 21-10 1/2, respectively.
Aptos won the team title with a score of 190 points, followed by Soquel (110) in second, Santa Cruz (104) in third and Scotts Valley (73) in fourth.
Soquel senior Logan Walters put on a show by winning four events, starting with the 100 meter dash in 11.04 seconds. MacConnell (11.18) took second, while Scotts Valley junior Anton Khomenko (11.19) placed third.
Walters (22.41) then edged Khomenko (22.63) to win the 200 dash, while Scotts Valley senior Will Shilling (23.10) took third. The Knights’ standout athlete continued with a victory in the pole vault, catapulting his way to a 13-foot, 6 inch winning-mark over Aptos sophomore Bryce Boudreault (12-6) in second and Soquel junior Talyn Avila-Dillon (11-6) in third.
Walters capped off the day by winning the 110 meter hurdles in 16.68, beating Wheeler (17.94) and Santa Cruz junior Kaden Steel (18.01) in second and third, respectively.
Scotts Valley junior Aaron Weiss won the 800 in 1:59.27, followed by Aptos sophomore Sam Hansen (1:59.46) in second and teammate junior Brady Bliesner (2:02) in third. In the 1600, Hansen (4:17.84) and Bliesner (4:19.96) placed second and third, respectively, behind this year’s winner Eli Fitchen-Young (4:15.74) of Santa Cruz.
Fitchen-Young (9:42.15) also won the 3200 ahead of Aptos senior Vincent Sandford-Carroll (9:53) in second and Santa Cruz freshman Anders Laurberg (10:03.08). Harbor senior Luke Wyland (49.51) won the 400.
San Lorenzo Valley junior Isaiah Maier (46.40) took third in the 300 hurdles, finishing behind Steel (44.21) in second and this year’s winner, Soquel senior Tomas Church (43.72). Soquel junior Ben Comilang won the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet.
Aptos’ 4×100 relay team—Damian Suchil, Casey MacConnell, Deric Moren and Scott Catesi—won their race in 43.43 seconds, while the 4×800 relay team—Brady Bliesner, Vincent Sandford-Carroll, Anthony Sandford-Carroll and Sam Hansen—were victorious in 7:59.21.
