Rylee Gomez made her season debut for the Watsonville High softball team in a 17-1 win in five innings against San Lorenzo Valley in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Tuesday.

The junior infielder batted 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Gomez, who committed to NCAA Division I Saint Mary’s College, also got the final two outs in an impressive double-play where she tagged second base and made the throw to senior infielder Irie Lerma at first base.

Gomez missed the first two games of the season and she said it felt great to finally get back playing with her teammates.

“It’s just fun playing out here with the girls and most of our team came back, so that’s good,” she said.

The Wildcatz (3-0) have won three straight games to begin the season and have outscored their opponents 42-2 during that streak.

Marissa Martinez, a junior, recorded the win in the circle. She gave up just four hits and recorded two strikeouts in four innings of work. She batted 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

In the fourth inning, Yaviana Prado blasted a home run to left-center field that landed on Riverside Drive. She batted 1-for-2 with four runs scored and an RBI for the Wildcatz, who played at Scotts Valley today.
