Christian Quintero poured in a career-high 46 points on Saturday to lead No. 10 Pajaro Valley over No. 7 Mills, 75-67, and into the quarterfinal round of the Central Coast Section playoffs for the first time in program history.
The Grizzlies (17-9), runners-up in the Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress division, will see a familiar foe in their Division III quarterfinal game: No. 2 Aptos.
The Mariners (16-10), co-champions of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, beat Pajaro Valley 52-44 on its home floor in late December.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Aptos.
In other boys’ CCS basketball action:
• NMC 49, Westmoor 47 – The No. 9-seeded Condors squeaked by the No. 8-seeded Rams in the second round of the CCS D-III playoffs on Saturday.
N.M.C. (18-7), the PCAL-Cypress champion, advances to play top-seeded Monterey in a rematch of their early preseason game.
The Condors lost 84-43 to the ‘Dores (19-4) in early December.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Monterey.
In girls’ CCS basketball action:
• M.V.C. 46, TKA 31 – Hanna Harvey had 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks, and Mackenzie Tellez added 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, as the No. 5-seeded Mustangs cruised into the quarterfinal round of the CCS D-IV playoffs on Saturday.
M.V.C. (18-7), the third-place finisher in the PCAL-Gabilan, travels to No. 4 Terra Nova on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
