Monte Vista Christian senior Connor Tran extended his season by at least another week.

The Mustangs’ star golfer earned a spot at next week’s Central Coast Section Championships by firing a 3-over par 74 in Tuesday’s regional round at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey.

Tran, the Monterey Bay League Pacific division Most Valuable Player, finished tied for 12th with four other golfers to squeak into the championship round. He will return to Monterey on May 15 at 8 a.m.

It will be his first trip to the championship.

For the first time, CCS hosted both regionals on the same day. Tran, who helped the Mustangs win the MBL-P title this season, started his round on the first hole at 1 p.m. under blue skies.

Aptos High, the undefeated Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion, finished ninth as a team with a 408. Sophomore Cole DeFrancesco missed the cut by one stroke, firing a 75. Junior Johnny Staka carded a 77.

Mariners’ freshman Nick Gavasse, the SCCAL individual champion a week ago, finished with an 84. Teammate Noah Clarke, Aptos’ only senior, also recorded an 84. Junior Adam MacDonald (88) and sophomore Jake Lanagan (95) rounded out the Mariners’ score.

M.V.C. senior Dennis Yang finished his season with an 85.
