More than 20 restaurants in Santa Cruz County will celebrate the art of pizza making during Santa Cruz Pizza Week, which kicks off Jan. 29.
Local restaurants from around the county are on board for the coordinated promotion, which features special pies, slices and prices.
The celebration of the world’s most popular food runs through Feb. 8.
Inspired by regional pizza-centric celebrations in the U.S., Canada and Europe, the local event celebrates America’s favorite food.. Participating local restaurants will craft and serve their own recipes, offering residents of the Central Coast a chance to taste the artistry that goes into creating the perfect pizza.
Santa Cruz Pizza Week is organized by the Weeklys Media Group, the locally based company that owns the Watsonville Pajaronian. Combined with its concurrent sister event in Silicon Valley, more than 85 restaurants are involved from Watsonville through Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties and into the San Francisco Peninsula.
Among the local restaurants participating are Slice Project, located in Watsonville, which is serving up a pizza called Saucy Little Chicken, adorned with mozzarella, tomato sauce, chicken, not-so-pesto sauce, garlic and shallots. In nearby Aptos, Cavalletta Restaurant will serve Meatball Pizza, while Churchill and Beers offers a choice of the Aloha Pizza (chili sauce, carnitas, red onion, pineapple) or the Rio Del Margherita Pizza (Canadian bacon, basil, garlic, pepperoni, bacon). David Kinch’s Mentone, in Aptos Village, lists the Nonna (a classic take on Margherita) and the Black Trumpet (trumpet mushrooms, taleggio, thyme) as its dishes.Visit SantaCruzPizzaWeek.com or check the Pizza Week app, which lists all of the specials. The app also allows pizza lovers to check in, post photos, rate meals, collect points and win pizzas. The app is downloadable at wklys.co/pw.
