WATSONVILLE — On Feb. 9, Los Banos resident Bobby Gill was killed when a dump truck hit him as he cleared a mudslide on Highway 17.

Two Watsonville companies and CalTrans were cited on Aug. 4 for the incident after a five-month investigation by Cal-OSHA.

Graniterock Company will pay $32,435 for two general and two serious citations. Hildebrand & Sons Trucking, meanwhile, will pay $23,850 for three serious citations.

CalTrans was issued one general citation for $750.

A Graniterock spokesman declined to comment, saying the company does not comment on “ongoing regulatory matters.”

A call to Hildebrand & Sons Trucking was not returned.

Gill was working with a crew from Graniterock, clearing debris from a recent mudslide caused by heavy winter rains.

Another man was injured after he was pinned beneath the wheels of the dump truck.

Graniterock spokeswoman Shanna Crigger said in February that Gill had been with the company for more than years. He was married with two children.
