City wants feedback on Ramsay Park design | News Briefs

Give your input on the design for Watsonville’s largest community park and recreational space at an upcoming meeting.

The city of Watsonville is working to design various elements of Ramsay Park, a project that has been underway since 2019. The city was awarded $7 million from the state for the project and combined with other funding sources, will have a total $23 million to spend on the park’s renovation.

Elements of the park that the city is looking to incorporate community input on include:

  • Soccer Field
  • Multi-Use Field
  • Inclusive Playground
  • Exploration Center (Nature Center)
  • Dog Park
  • Picnic Areas
  • Supporting Amenities, such as trails, parking lots and more

The meeting will take place Nov. 16, from 6-7pm, via Zoom. For additional opportunities to give input, visit the project’s website at bit.ly/3k5XuIt

Veteran’s Day parade

Watsonville is hosting a Veteran’s Day parade in honor of the veterans who have served their country.

The parade will start at St. Patrick’s church and travel one mile down to the Mello Center.

Veterans are welcome to walk in the parade, and those unable to walk the mile to Main St. can ride along in the fire trucks driving in the parade. Veterans Services will also attend the parade, and will help Veterans interested in adding “Veteran” to their driver’s license or identification fill out the necessary documentation.

The parade will take place Nov. 11, at 9:45am, and will end at the Henry Mello Center in Watsonville at 11am.

Local schools fundraiser breaks record

Drive for Schools raised a record-breaking $744,645 for schools across Santa Cruz County this year.

Drive for Schools is the largest annual school fundraiser, lasting for five weeks and sponsored by the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Participating schools keep all the proceeds from ticket sales, and use the profits to fund different school programs and expenses.

Community members got creative in selling tickets to the fundraiser, with one Watsonville native, Christian Garcia, selling Drive for School tickets at his wedding. He also won the $25,000 Grand Prize for selling the most tickets.

Visit beachboardwalk.com/drive-for-schools for a complete list of winners.
