Workshops touch on grief

WATSONVILLE — Watsonville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 700 South Green Valley Road, will host two workshops to help people overcome with grief.

The first workshop, titled “Real Help for Really Hurting People,” will be held May 4. Dinner will be provided at 5:30 p.m., with the workshop running from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The seminar will include the book “Comfort for the Day,” hands-on exercises to process pain and more. Those who are grieving over the death of a loved one are encouraged to attend.

The next workshop, “Becoming Skillful Comforters,” will take place May 5 from 2-5 p.m.

Karen Nicola will teach attendees how to comfort someone who is experiencing grief.

Fashion show benefits charity

CAPITOLA — BFF Boutique and the Capitola Village Mercantile Merchants will host a Spring/Summer Fashion Show on April 29 at 5:30 p.m. at 115 San Jose Ave. in Capitola.

Ticket proceeds will go to a local charity. In the last four years, the fashion show has supported Monarch Women and Family Services, Walnut Avenue Services and CASA of Santa Cruz County.

“It is an honor, and it gives me great pleasure, to be able to help these and other organizations through our fun-filled events,” said BFF Boutique owner Terri Foster.

Application deadline extended for Grand Jury

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The Superior Court of Santa Cruz County has extended the application deadline for volunteers seeking to apply to become a member of the Civil Grand Jury.

The deadline is now May 1.

The 19 members of the Civil Grand Jury are an independent body empowered to investigate the operations of city and county governments as well as other tax-supported agencies and special districts. They also respond to citizen complaints on government issues.

Candidates for the grand jury must be United States citizens, at least 18 years of age, have a working knowledge of the English language and have resided in the county for at least one year.

All qualified citizens interested in serving on the 2018-2019 Civil Grand Jury are invited to submit an application to the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County for consideration.

For applications and information, visit the Superior Court’s website at www.santacruzcourt.org or visit either the Santa Cruz or Watsonville Courthouse to pick up an application. All applications must be received by 3 p.m. on May 1.
