Mystery Readers Club meets
WATSONVILLE — The Mystery Readers Club will meet Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. in the Watsonville Main Library conference room, 275 Main St., Suite 100.
This month’s selected author is Louise Penny. The group will discuss the Chief Inspector Gamache novels.

Fundraiser benefits Corralitos Cultural Center
CORRALITOS — The Corralitos Cultural Center, 127 Hames Road, will hold a fundraiser on Aug. 19 to help raise funds for a new roof for the center.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a musical performance by Americana group “Blue Avenue.” Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., featuring enchiladas, rice, beans, guacamole and Mexican brownies.
A $25 donation for the music and dinner is asked. All proceeds will go toward a new roof for the Corralitos Cultural Center.
The event is sponsored by Corralitos Brewery and Archangeli Family Wines.

Bay Federal celebrating anniversary with sweepstakes
CAPITOLA — To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Bay Federal Credit Union has launched a $1,000 “Why I Love BayFed” sweepstakes to collect stories of how the credit union has made a positive impact in the lives of its members and those in the community over the years.

Follies holding pancake breakfast
SANTA CRUZ — A benefit pancake breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday at 222 Market St. in Santa Cruz.
Cost of the breakfast is $7 for adults, $3 for children under age 10.
Proceeds will benefit Santa Cruz Follies.

Hashimoto to speak at TEDx event
SANTA CRUZ — Mas Hashimoto of Watsonville will join nine other speakers during a TEDx Merit Academy event on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Rio Theater, 1205 Soquel Ave. in Santa Cruz.
The event is organized by Merit Academy, a college prep program founded and directed by Susan Tatsui-D’Arcy.
Ten presentations will be given, each eight to 18 minutes in duration. Topics to be discussed include climate change, black holes in the galaxies, and the need to protect the civil and human rights of all.
In addition to Hashimoto, the speakers are Joe Jordan, Martin Gaskell, David Vasquez, Tim Niemier, Allen Green, Gregory Gavin, Logan Conover, Pascal Costa and Hannah Faris.
