Lecture series focuses on removing symptoms of stress

WATSONVILLE — A free nine-week seminar is being offered to help remove negative symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

A free introductory meeting will take place Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at 700 South Green Valley Road in Watsonville. This orientation meeting will be repeated on Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. 

The “Removing Negativity” seminar is based on an educational model. Using documented statistics and practices including nutritional foods to support the brain and natural lifestyle strategies.

This program is not designed to take the place of the primary physician or other medical clinicians. All staff are unpaid volunteers.

The free weekly lecture series will follow the orientation meetings. Topics include:

• Nutrition and the Brain

• How to Improve Brain Function

• Increase Energy and Develop Healthy Sleep Habits

• Identifying the Causes of Depression

• Living with Stress without Distress

• Maximize IQ in Children and Boost Concentration

• Preparing to Quit! Overcoming Harmful & Unwanted Habits

• Lifestyle Prescription for Eliminating Stress, Anxiety & Depression

• Living Above Loss and Growing through Grief

• Positive Lifestyle Choices and Improved Physical Performance

• How Thinking Can Defeat Anxiety & Depression

The lecture series takes place at the Health Education Center, Watsonville SDA Church, 700 South Green Valley Road.

Vision Santa Cruz County survey to close Dec. 31

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The County of Santa Cruz is undertaking its first strategic planning process, called Vision Santa Cruz County. As part of the county’s outreach efforts, it is seeking public input on the county’s vision, values, strengths and weaknesses.

To date, officials have received feedback from hundreds of residents through a series of community meetings, and nearly 2,000 more through an online survey.

The survey is scheduled to close Dec. 31.

It is available at the Vision Santa Cruz County website, www.santacruzcounty.us/sp.

Nominees sought for Agriculturalist of the Year

CALIFORNIA — The California State Fair is seeking nominations for the 2018 Agriculturalist of the Year.

The Agriculturalist of the Year award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated leadership and contributed extensively to the agricultural industry in a professional manner. Individuals nominated must have clearly represented the industry over a number of years in one or more of the following areas: finance, government, production agriculture, education, labor, research, communications, trade and public service.

The California State Fair first began presenting this award in 1980. Most recent awardees include Tom Nassif (2017), Sarbjit “Sarb” Johl (2016), Charles D. “Chuck” Ahlem (2015), Craig McNamara (2014), Edward H. Nishio (2013), A.G. Kawamura (2012), Robert “Bob” Gilbert (2011) and Bill Lyons Jr. (2010).

The 2018 Agriculturalist of the Year nomination form can be found on the California State Fair website under Agricultural Advisory Council (www.castatefair.org/agricultural-advisory-council). Nominations can be made from within the industry and the general public.
